Before we begin to talk about the origin of Mary and her family and her birth in both Biblical and Koranic texts, it must present an overview on the status of Mary and its position in these two texts.
Despite the high solid status of Mary in Christian theology which gave her later the title as the Mother of God, and make it go up to heaven in a day is still the church is celebrating it until now, the Feast of the Virgin Mary, but the status of Mary in the New Testament were not up to its place in Christian theology. With the exception of its role in the story of the Annunciation and Christmas that we can not find her a distinct role in the life of Jesus missionary, was absent from the crucifixion scene with three of the evangelists did not witness the resurrection of Jesus with the disciples of the four Evangelists. Here, it must be pointed out that the story of the Annunciation, Christmas had been received when Matthew and Luke and entirely absent in Mark and John. These two Evangelists their stories begin at the meeting between Jesus and John the Baptist at the Jordan River when Jesus was about thirty years old. They do not even remotely refer later to the Christmas story virgin even to make it appear that they had not heard of them, did not have any information about Mary and her family and her life before the previous date. In fact, the absence of the Christmas story for evangelist Mark and John, were spelled out quite differently in Matthew and Luke, has called for some researchers in the New Testament to mind the story foisted on these two texts, it was added later for reasons related to the emergence and evolution of the idea of date virgin that was absent in identify the stage of the Gospels.
according to the Gospel written by Luke that does not show Mary after the Christmas story only in the event of the visit to Jerusalem by the family of Joseph the Carpenter when Jesus was at the age of twelve years, and how they notice his absent in the way of return and did not find him in the convoy, returned parents to Jerusalem to find him in the temple, discusses the Senate and showing his mature and knowledge (Luke 2: 41-52),and then Mary is absent from the rest of the events until the end of the story. Even in the place where we expect the appearance of its name, the mother of Jesus Luke disappointed the readers in it. When speaking in the synagogue at Nazareth for the first time after the fall of the Holy Spirit upon him, surprised the audience of the Sultan of his words, said: "Is not this the son of Joseph?" (Luke 4:16-22), they did not say: Is not this the son of Marry, or is not this the son of Joseph and Mary.
In the Gospel according to Mathew Mary was mentioned by name after the Christmas story only once, in the words of the people of Nazareth, who have heard the sayings of Jesus for the first time and said: 55"Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" 57And they took offense at him. (Matthew 13: 55-56). It also comes Mary was mentioned at once again, but without reference to its name: [46]While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. [47]Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.
[48]He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" [49]Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. [50]or whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother(Matthew 12: 46-50).
Jesus here shows a kind of coldness toward his family, which apparently came from in order to prevent him and his message that they are not believing in it. The following text from the Gospel of John tells us this position unequivocally[1]After this, Jesus went around in Galilee, purposely staying away from Judea because the Jews there were waiting to take his life. [2]But when the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near, [3]Jesus' brothers said to him, "You ought to leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples may see the miracles you do. [4]No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world." [5]For even his own brothers did not believe in him.
[6]Therefore Jesus told them, "The right time for me has not yet come; for you any time is right. [7]The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil." (John 7: 1-7). It appears from this text that the brothers were Ihvzouna to go to Jerusalem the Jewish capital of the province in order to arrest him there and forced to abandon his mission. They tried to arrest them because they are regarded as insane, as we shall see in the Gospel of Mark.
In the Gospel of Mark, who did not give the Christmas story virgin, did not mention any news about Jesus before it was adopted by John the Baptist is in nearly thirty years of age, the author does mention Mary by name only once, in the In the context of admire by the people of Nazareth from the wisdom of Jesus, He wrote something similar to the one we read short while ago at the Gospel according to Matthew: 1Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
"Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! 3Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him. (Mark 6: 1-3).
This is the only place which is called by Jesus the son of Mary, but as definition not as the title. We note here that Mark completely ignored Joseph when he said: "Is not this the carpenter, the Son of Mary?" While said to Luke in his account of the incident itself: "Is not this the son of Joseph?" He said once: "Is not this the carpenter's son?" In other words, Mark, who did not narrate the Christmas story he apparently heard joseph the carpenter gave the title to Jesus himself.
[31]Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. [32]A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you."
[33]"Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked.
[34]Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! [35]Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."(Mark 3: 31-35).
It is clear here that the family of Jesus had come to prevent him from delievering his ,message, as Mark says in the same chapter, a few verses from it: "When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind." (Mark 3:21).
Although there are women among the followers of Jesus as permenant companian and giving their own money in his service, but that the mother of Jesus was absent from the scene throughout the period covered by the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke. Read about those women in the Gospel of Luke: 1After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod's household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means. (Luke 8: 1-3).
50And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
51At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. 52The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
54When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son[e] of God!"
55Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. 56Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons (Matthew 27: 50-56).
40Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. 41In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there. (Mark 15: 40-41). We read in the Gospel of Luke:[ 49]But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. (Luke 23:49). Some of these women were the first witnesses to his resurrection, they told the rest of the students of these people. "(Matthew 28, Mark 16 and Luke 24).
Three of these testimonies we notice they share the fact that the mother of Jesus was absent from the scene of the crussifiction.John is the only evangelist who made Mary present at the crucifixion scene. Was her presence more visible in his testimony?
The John who ignored the Christmas story in toto, the description of Jesus at the beginning of his Gospel, as the son of Joseph, says Phillips, who followed Jesus to his colleague, Nathanael: Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." (John 1:45). After that in chapter 6, John refers to Jesus as the son of Joseph with occasional references to his mother without her name, where he says the people of Nazareth:said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, 'I came down from heaven'?"[John 6:42] Then mention the mother of Jesus only twice, but without reference to its name.
The first time in a wedding scene at the beginning of the narrative of Qana, and the second in the crucifixion scene at the end of the Gospel. And among these scenes we don’t find the mother of Jesus impacting, both in his private life or in his public life.
At the Wedding scene in Cana in Galilee where Jesus, his mother and disciples were invited, we have evidence of the warmth lost in the relationship between Jesus and his mother. When implemented alcohol and the party is still in the middle, Marry the mother of Jesus went to her son to find a solution to this critical situation: [1]On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, [2]and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. [3]When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." [4]"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." [5]His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." [6]Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[a] [7]Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. [8]Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, [9]and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside [10]and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." (John 2: 1-10).
Follows that Jesus performed his first miracle is turning water into wine. Then we have to wait to the end of the Bible to run across the mother of Jesus again stood at the Cross: 25Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," 27and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home (John 19: 25-27), That's all I have to ignore the biblical Christmas story to tell us about Mary.
In the rest of the New Testament does not mention Mary, but only once, in the Acts of the Apostles, and in passing. After the risen Christ to heaven after he had spent forty days appears to the disciples at intervals, he returned students to the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem, and with them was Mary, and brothers of Jesus who believe in him apparently after the crucifixion and resurrection: "When they entered, they went up to the attic where they were staying where: Peter and James and John, etc. .... These were continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with women, and Mary the Mother of Jesus and his brothers. " (Acts 1: 9-14).
Then marry disappear in the Acts of the Apostles. The brothers were left or some of them left, a member of the Church of New Jerusalem, because we know from the course of events that the oldest is Jacob has become head of the church and took the title of the brother of the Lord. There is another brother called Judas, one of the letters attributed to him known as the New Testament letter of Jude.
If we look at the Epistles of St. Paul, which are uppermost of the New Testament, which was the basis for the church to build upon it’s believe, we did not find the impact or any narritive of the Virgin Mary, not in the reference cross only that Jesus was born of a woman any link to Ms. Mary, because human being was born of a woman, where he says: [4]But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, [5]to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. (Galatians 4: 4-5).
Moving on to the Qur'anic story comparing to the Bible, we found an overwhelming presence of Mary is not comparable to their presence in the New Testament. It was narrated in the Qur'an,despite the short-term and reduced, the name of Mary, about 43 times versus 19 times in all the New Testament's 27 books. The only woman mentioned by the Quran by name, and the rest of the women had assign related to their husbands, saying: a woman of Imran and Lot's wife and the wife of Pharaoh, or the family rate became famous for it such as the Queen of Sheba. In exchange for silence on the origin of the four Gospels of Mary and her geneology, and a model in which we find in the words of the gospel according to Matthew: "Now the birth of Christ was on this wise: When his mother was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together. Found with child of the Holy Spirit." The Qur'anic story attributed to a series of great and noble profits family in the history of divine revelation, and make it a descendant of the family prophetic choosen on the worlds: Allah has taken by preference Adam and Nuh (Noah), the family of Ibrahim and the family of ‘Imran out of all people and conferred on them the prerogative of Prophethood (3:33).
In addition to belonging to this family ordained, family of Al-Omran, Mary is the most honorable and noble women of the earth as a whole: The angels addressed Maryam. They said «O Maryam, Allah has chosen you for an unexpected event. You are so pure that He has taken you by preference out of all the women of all nations», (3:42).
It is a model of piety and righteousness: O Maryam, be obedient and submissive to the will of Allah and bow to the ground in reverence and prostrate your reason to divine revelation and kneel with those who kneel to do homage and honour to Almighty Allah (3:43).
Also Maryam (Mary) the daughter of 'lmran who guarded herself from being supposed, and maintained the flower of faith and chastity. We sent to her Our Messenger, the Spirit Jibril (Gabril), to breathe life into her and animate a soul in her womb. she submitted to Allah's Authority and His ordinance, and she was one of those devoted to divine worship and service. (66: 12). It was an example of chastity and purity:" And Mary the daughter of Imran, which guarded her chastity its soul. "(66: 12).
And of the greatness of Mary reach it’s peak in the verse:" And Maryam (Mary) who guarded herself from being supposed and maintained the flower of faith and chastity, and so We sent to her Our Messenger -the Spirit Gabriel-, to breathe life into her and animate a soul in her womb, and We made her and her son Isa (Jesus) an emblem of Our Omnipotence and Authority to be pondered by all people."(21: 91)." And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) – Isa (Jesus)- and his mother an emblem of Our Omnipotence and Authority and We provided them with a shelter on a high land affording them security and peace of mind, and beneath which flowed a spring. "(23:50).
The following Quranic story listing the virtues of Mary: " An example is quoted to show that living in an atmosphere of piety but with false standards does not save one from evil destiny. Conversely living in an atmosphere of wickedness but with divine standards brings one to the beatitude of heaven.
10- Allah cites an example of those who live with false standards in an ads' atmosphere of piety: the wife of Nuh (Noah) and that of Lut (Lot). They were the two mates who lived their wifehood under two of Our devout worshippers, but they proved false to the trust and to those who trusted them, and so their husbands could not save them from the fatal consequence requited by Allah, and it was said to them: «Take up your abode in Hell with those so destined[10] And Allah cites an example of those who live in an atmosphere of wickedness but with divine standards: Pharaoh's wife who invoked Allah: «My Creator», she said, «I pray and beseech You to provide me with a dwelling in your heaven's realm and to rescue me from Pharaoh and his tyranny and oppression and from those who do not observe the principles of justice and fair dealing[11] (66: 10-11).
And described in the text as a friend Indeed, the Messiah, the son of Maryam, was no more than a Messenger; many Messengers like him have passed away before him. His mother was a woman vested with saintliness of life and character; she and her son consumed food. See how We expound to them Our revelations, yet you see how they counsel deaf (5: 75).
And who kept Allah's truth so pure is the title of honored titles of the prophets: Narrate O Muhammad to the people what is discoursed in the Book- the Quran- relative to Ibrahim (Abraham) who was a man who kept Allah's truth so pure, and his words and his deeds together accorded; he was a Prophet. (19:41).
And narrate O Muhammad to the people what is discoursed in the Book -the Quran- relative to Idris, -possibly he was Ozoris or he was not, or he was Enoch or was not and it seems that he was sent before Ibrahim-. He was a man who kept Allah's truth so pure and his words together with his deeds accorded ,he was a Prophet. (19:56).
And Mary and her son are immune against sin and the devil for them. This is meant to say to Mary, the mother developed by: When she gave birth to the child, she was astonished, even though Allah already knew well what she had brought forth, she said: «O Allah, my Creator, I am delivered of a female. I have called her Maryam and here do I commit her and her progeny to You to protect them from AL-Shaytan and those with characteristics befitting him, the accursed and the outcast (3:36).
It was narrated in the Hadith that explains this verse: "What is born is born only touch by the devil when he is born so begin crying, excepte Mary and her son." (Narrated by sheikhs). It says in the Gospel of Matthew and Luke refers to the immunity of Jesus against the devil and the devil in the story of his experience and his inability to temptation (Matthew 4 and Luke 4). Later the Christian theology build of its own concept for the immunity of Mary, when she considered had been born free from original sin shared by the sons of Adam.
The Koranic narrative of Mary defends her reputation from the Misrepresentation of the Jews that they tried throughout history and accused of adultery: " Yet, set to their discredit were such crimes that brought them within the measure of Allah's wrath:
a) The breaking of the divine* covenant and b) Their challenge to Allah's revelations,
c) Their wrongful slaying of the prophets and by and by their conspiracy to bring death upon Christ.
d) And their insolent statement that the ears of their hearts were deaf and that their bosoms treasured every branch of divine knowledge and wisdom that they could absorb no more, when in fact Allah had imprinted their hearts with infidelity and impiety, for how greatly shaken was their faith in Allah[155] Also, their infidelity and their slanderous discourse against Maryam - Blessed Virgin Mary- ( B.V.M.)[155] (4: 155-156)
Jewish have used the character of Mary in the context of criticism of Christianity and vilification of Jesus, who they described as illegitimate son of Mary of the Roman soldier named Panthera by the Talmud.
Pantera had left Palestine after Marry became pregnant and the finding for the gravestone of a Roman soldier from the Phoenician city of Tyre, who died in Germany, which read: Tiberius Julius the slave of Pantera, role in reopening of the file that the Jews did not shut it until today. In this regard, the researcher Morton Smith say in his book: Jesus the Magician (NY1978, P47), that the names are first in the Compound name are named after the Emperor Tiberius, who served the soldier during his rule, and the third name "slave" is an abbreviation for the term High "sun slave ", and the third" Pantera "is a translation of the name of the High" Leopard ", which the original name for this soldier. Then wondering if there was a link between this pantira and the Pantera of the Talmud, Descent, Christmas and vow
